Questions and Answers about The Federal Hockey League
Q. How many teams do you anticipate being in the FHL for the 2010-2011 season?
A. At this time we are looking forward to icing six teams.
Q. Where will the teams be located?
A. We are looking at several locations within the State of NY as well as MA, CT and other Northeastern States as well as Canada.
Q. How many games will the teams play?
A. We are anticipating a 60 game schedule depending on the number of teams.
Q. What is the salary cap for each team?
A. The cap will be set at $5,050 per week.
Q. What is the roster size?
A. For most of the season the roster will be limited to 17 players.
Q. What do you mean when you say, “most of the season”?
A. We will allow expanded rosters of up to 20 players for the first six games of the season and beginning on March 1st until the end of the season.
Q. Will you affiliate with any other leagues?
A. We are working towards an affiliation arrangement at this time.
Q. When will the season begin?
A. Training camp will start on Sunday October 24th, 2010 and the regular season will begin on Friday November 5th, 2010.
Q. When will the season end?
A. Sunday March 13th, 2011.
Q. What is the playoff format?
A. The top four teams will qualify with the 1st seed facing off against the 4th seed and the 2nd seed playing the 3rd seed in the best of five series with games 1, 2 & 5, if necessary at the highest seeded home rink and game 3 &4, if necessary at the lowest seeded home rink.
The winners of the semi-final round will play a five game series following the format above.
Q. What will the ticket prices be?
A. Tickets will range from about $7.00 up to about $15.00.
Q. Can I buy team and league merchandise?
A. Yes the league and each team will have merchandise available during game nights as well as through the internet on Fanwear.
Q. Any unique playing rules that the FHL will be using?
A. First we will use a 3-2-1 point system meaning that a team that wins in regulation will be awarded 3 points, a team who wins in OT or in a shoot-out will be awarded 2 points and the team which losses in OT or shoot-out will be awarded 1 point. All minor penalties will be served in full regardless of the number of goals being scored.
Q. What is the procedure for OT and Shoot-Outs?
A. A 5 minute overtime period, 3 on 3, first team to score wins. If a penalty is incurred during the OT the non-offending team will be awarded a penalty shot, if he scores, the game is over, if he does not score the one minute penalty shall be served.
